Annual Student Awards

Faculty members in the Professional Writing major congratulate our annual student award winners.

The Professional Writing Achievement Award

This award is presented to a graduating senior majoring in Professional Writing who exhibits the following attributes:

  1. Scholarly achievement in Professional Writing courses, including evidence of ability to examine texts, analyze data, and make relevant use of secondary sources
  2. Writing skill, including evidence of effective composition in a variety of genres
  3. Dedication and involvement in Professional Writing program-sponsored special projects
  4. Sustained commitment to the Professional Writing program
  5. Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the ethical responsibilities inherent in all forms of communication
  6. 3.0 minimum GPA and 3.5 minimum GPA in Professional Writing

The Candace Spigelman Professional Writing Commitment Award

This award, re-named in 2005 in honor of the late Professor Candace Spigelman, is presented to a graduating senior majoring in Professional Writing who exhibits the following attributes:

  1. Sustained commitment to the Professional Writing program
  2. Dedication and involvement in Professional Writing program-sponsored special projects
  3. Dedication and commitment to the field of professional writing
  4. Continued willingness to help peers succeed
  5. Positive representation of the Professional Writing program in the larger community

The Professional Writing Outstanding Internship/Co-Op Award
