Dr. Ramsey is interested in visual and linguistic representations of gender in media and public discourse.  Her

recent research focuses on the influence of popular film on ideas about political rights in the United States and

on the representation of woman in automobile advertisements from 1910-1920. 



She won the “Cheris Kramarae Outstanding Dissertation Award” from the Organization for the Study of

Communication, Language, and Gender in 2001 and has been published in Communication Teacher,

Critical Studies in Media Communication, The Review of Communication, Women's Studies in

Communication, the Western Journal of  Communication, Great Ideas for the Basic Course, Feminist

Media Studies, and Women and Language. She is also the the coordinator of the CAS minor, the academic

adviser for CAS and Crime, Law, and Justice majors. As a temporary co-cordinator for the American Studies

degree in the 2005-2006 academic year, she can also answer your questions about how that degree might fit
