Helen Hartman is a Senior Lecturer of Kinesiology at Penn State Berks. Hartman teaches courses for the Kinesiology Exercise Science degree program, along with courses for general education and elementary education. She developed the FITT program at the Penn State Berks campus, which provides an opportunity for Kinesiology majors to practice classroom theory and concepts in physical activity programs. The FITT Adult program is held on campus for faculty, staff, and non-traditional students. The FITT Youth program travels to the Reading Hospital to provide physical activity for overweight and obese youth.
Hartman is part of a 3 year grant consortium with Albright College and The Reading Hospital, which is sponsored by the Berks County Foundation. The childhood obesity prevention program is a pilot program targeting 4 year olds through third graders. The program concentrates on educating children and their caregivers on physical activity, nutrition, and emotional well being skills.
Hartman serves as the coach for both the mens' and womens' PSU Berks varsity cross country teams. She is the NCAA Senior Woman Administrator for PSU Berks, which involves participating with the SAAC (student athlete advisory committee) organization and community activities.
