Ms. JoAnne B. Pumariega is an Instructor in Spanish and in Mathematics at Penn State Berks. She recently moved to the area from northeast Tennessee, where she served in the Mathematics Department at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) for seven years, teaching mostly Probability and Statistics. She has over thirty years of teaching experience at many different levels in the areas of Mathematics and Spanish. She has been certified in several states having taught in Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Texas. At ETSU she received the "Above and Beyond" Teaching Award in May 2002 for her enthusiasm and dedication to her teaching and her students. Her research collaborations and publications combine her experience in Mathmatics and Spanish along with psychological/social topics. Her main area of research interest is "Math Anxiety". Her volunteer activities in Berks County include Spanish translation at the Catholic Charities Center, membership in the Medical Alliance of Berks County, and service as a lector at her local church. Over the years, Ms. Pumariega has served as President of two faculty women's organizations at ETSU and the University of South Carolina, along with a two year term as Chairperson of a Board of Education at a private school in Texas.
