The following endowment funds are available to faculty and staff at Penn State Berks.

The Howard O. and Jean Beaver Endowment for Community Service

Purpose: To support the University's land-grant mission of service to the needs of the community and to encourage the spirit of volunteerism in the Berks Campus Community. 

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Dir. of Academic Affairs, Dir. Of Student Programs and Services, Dir of Univ. Relations

Endowment for Guest Lecturers at Berks Campus

Purpose: To make possible lectures and presentations at Berks Campus by individuals of local, national and international stature to enhance the academic and cultural life of the campus. 

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Dir. Of Academic Affairs and the Chairperson of the Advisory Board

Comments: Lectures/speaker fees for 4 specific types of categories*

Examples of past expenses: Lecture Series speakers, hotel fees, car services


Berks Campus Arts and Cultural Fund

Purpose: To provide monies for approved purposes which will enhance the arts and cultural program of the Berks Campus for which general funds are not available. 

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Chairperson of the Advisory Board and the Dir. Of Academic Affairs

Comments: Primarily used by Marilyn Fox and Cleo House

Examples of past expenses: Theater production expenses, art supplies, etc.


Joseph L. and Shirley K. Boscov Honors Endowment

Purpose: To provide support for academically superior students at the Berks Campus by providing monies for purposes such as scholarships, lectures, student scholarly travel, and other program expenditures.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor

Comments: Primarily used by Sandy Feinstein

Examples of past expenses: Student tickets for Grease, van rental, Italy trip, Peru trip


Elsa L. and John W. Bowman Curriculum Endowment

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to faculty and staff for curriculum development and enhancement of academic programs at Penn State Berks.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor

Comments: none

Examples of past expenses: Travel expenses for Ed program Writing Fellows lunch


Dr. Ruth M. Freyberger Endowment for the Arts and Art Education

Purpose: To provide monies for approved purposes which will enhance the arts and cultural program of the Berks Campus for which general funds are not available.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Chairperson of the Advisory Board, and Dir. Of Academic Affairs

Comments: Primarily used by Marilyn Fox

Examples of past expenses: Honorariums, exhibit expenses, art purchases


Frederick H. and Austra Gaige Fund to Support Innovation

Purpose: To support and recognize outstanding achievement by faculty, staff and students at Penn State Berks Campus who demonstrate innovation in teaching and learning or in institutional support for the teaching and learning process.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Assoc. Dean of Academic Affairs, the Chief Student Affairs Officer, and/or additional faculty and staff as the Dean deems appropriate

Berks Campus Endowment Fund

Purpose: To provide monies for approved purposes for which general funds are not available.

Chain of Approval: Director of the Campus, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Chairman of the Berks Campus Senate

Mrs. Harold Mcl. Grout and Mrs. C. Glenn Kauffman Endowment for the Arts

Purpose: To make possible more performances and exhibits in the arts at Penn State Berks.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Dir. Of Academic Affairs, Chairperson of the Advisory Board

Comments: Primarily used by Marilyn Fox

Joseph R. Himmel Endowment for Theater Arts

Purpose: To provide monies for approved purposes which will enhance and improve the quality of theater arts programs at the Penn State Berks Campus.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor

Comments: Primarily used by Cleo House. Expenditures should comply with 4 specific categories*

The Valeria E. Hoffert Memorial Endowment for Capital Improvements

Purpose: To provide monies for enhancing the utility of Penn State Berks Campus physical facilities and campus grounds.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Chairperson of the Advisory Board, Dir. Of Business Services, Dir. Of Academic Affairs, Chairperson of the Development and Finance Committee of the Advisory Board

Comments: none

Examples of past expenses: Folding tables, clock repairs, landscaping equipment


Harold W. And Jeanne D. Perkins Endowment Fund

Purpose: Shall be two-fold: to provide scholarship to both full-time and part-time undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State Berks; and to provide grants to full-time faculty and/or staff members for the purpose of professional improvement or advanced study related to the academic programs of the Berks Campus.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Dir. Of Academic Affairs, Executive Committee of the Advisory Board, and Chairman of the Academic and Community Services Committee

Philip D. Rowe, Jr. and Mary Lee Rowe Endowment to Support Agricultural Activities at Berks Campus

Purpose: To enrich Penn State Berks by providing monies for student scholarships, faculty research, curriculum development and other activities associated with agricultural education.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Dir. Of Academic Affairs, Chairperson of the Advisory Board

Robert W. and Elizabeth L. Werts Endowment for Music at Berks Campus

Purpose: To support the musical performances on the Penn State Berks campus by individuals and/or groups performing there, in order to enhance the cultural life of the campus.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Dir. Of Academic Affairs, and Chairperson of the Advisory Board

Comments: none

Helen H. and William G. Hintz Endowment for Engineering and Science Equipment

Purpose: To provide monies for equipment and equipment-related expenses which will enhance and improve the quality of Engineering and Science programs at the Penn State Berks Campus.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor in consultation with the Director of Academic Affairs and the engineering and science faculty

Comments: none

Betty Lou McLean Endowment for the Department of Theater

Purpose: To enrich Penn State Berks by providing monies for the Department of Theater.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor upon the recommendation of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs

Comments: Program support only. No student awards.

Harold A. Pfreimer Engineering Outreach and Recruitment Endowment for Penn State Berks

Purpose: To enrich Penn State Berks by providing monies for recruiting, paid internships and outreach programs for students enrolled in an engineering major at Penn State Berks.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor upon recommendation of the Head of the Division of Engineering, Business and Computing

Comments: none

Harold A. Pfreimer Engineering for Faculty Development

Purpose: To enrich Penn State Berks by providing monies for faculty of the Engineering Department the opportunity to participate in faculty development beyond the scope of what is currently offered by PSU and Penn State Berks.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor upon recommendation of the Head of the Division of Engineering, Business and Computing

Harold A. Pfreimer Engineering Projects Endowment

Purpose: To enrich Penn State Berks by providing monies for engineering projects that educate Penn State Berks students.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor upon recommendation of the Head of the Division of Engineering, Business and Computing

George J. Losoncy Endowment in Physics and Astronomy at Penn State Berks

Purpose: To enrich Penn State Berks by providing monies for programming, courses, and other initiative in Physics and Astronomy in the Division of Science.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor upon the recommendation of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and the Head of the Division of Science

Comments: none

Berks Campus Conference Center Fund

Purpose: To provide monies for approved purposes which will enhance the Wetzel property as a conference center for which general funds are not available.

Chain of Approval: Chancellor, Chairman of the Advisory Board, and the Associate Director of Academic Affairs

Comments: none

Examples of past expenses: Painting, wallpaper, etc.
