College Goals & Strategic Initiatives

Goal 1 Student Learning & Educational Excellence:
Aggressively recruit and retain students consistent with Penn State standards and available resources of the College.Goal 2 Enrollment Management:
Effectively recruit and retain a diverse population that aligns with the Penn State Berks mission, priorities, and University enrollment projections.
Goal 3 Diversity & Sense of Community:
Foster a caring, collegial, and diverse campus community aligned with Penn State University Principles.
Goal 4 Community Outreach:
Enhance existing and promote new partnerships between Penn State Berks and its service area.
Goal 5: Research & Scholarship:
Support research and scholarship to advance knowledge and creativity. Promote ongoing intellectual vitality, enhance the reputation of Penn State Berks, and model lifelong inquiry.
Strategic Initiatives:
To realize "Building on 50 Years of Excellence" each goal consists of several strategic initiatives to make the strategic plan operational. These initiatives are listed by each goal below.
Goal 1: Student Learning & Educational Excellence:
Initiative 1:
Sets goals, assess student learning outcomes, and promote continuous improvement.
Initiative 2:
Improve co-curricular (e.g. community service, service learning, internships, study abroad, leadership development, student organizations) learning experiences.
Initiative 3:
Enhance support services that strengthen student learning.
Goal 2: Enrollment Management:
Initiative 1:
Sustain modest enrollment growth for the college while increasing standards for admission and improving retention rates. The primary market for new students will continue to be full-time traditional enrollments.
Initiative 2:
Examine current academic programming to attract high achieving students. Develop new academic programs that are aligned with Penn State Berks' vision and mission, market research, and regional/ state economic need.
Initiative 3:
Develop an integrated, comprehensive marketing plan that identifies strategies to recruit potential students and continues to enhance the College's image within the community.
Goal 3: Diversity & Sense of Community
Initiative 1:
Create a campus culture that embraces faculty, staff, and students of diverse backgrounds.
Initiative 2:
Develop and integrate program and services to maximize the educational opportunities, access, and experiences of underserved students.
Initiative 3:
Increase the enrollment of underserved students.
Goal 4: Community Outreach
Initiative 1:
Position Penn State as a recognized regional provider of career and professional education, research, and programs that address demonstrated public need.
Initiative 2:
Increase the number of credit program offerings and alternative delivery methods to meet the needs of service area.
Initiative 3:
Initiate workforce development and public programming.
Initiative 4:
Offer youth programming that encourages and prepares students for science and technology degrees.
Goal 5: Research & Scholarship
Initiative 1:
Continually enhance the scholarship and research environment.
Initiative 2:
Increase research partnerships with various community constituencies.
Initiative 3:
Increase undergraduate research (e.g. student participation in research and scholarship).
Initiative 4:
Develop, maintain, and promote Center(s) for Excellence in scholarship.
