Spoken word artist Taylor Mali to perform
Taylor Mali, one of the most well-known poets to have emerged from the poetry slam movement, will perform at Penn State Berks on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at?7:30 p.m. in the?Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This event is free and open to the public.
A native of New York City and vocal advocate of teachers and the nobility of teaching, Mali himself spent nine years in the classroom teaching everything from English and History to Math and S.A.T. preparation. He has performed and lectured for teachers all over the world, and his New Teacher Project has a goal of creating 1,000 new teachers through “poetry, persuasion, and perseverance.” Mali has led six teams to national poetry slam finals, winning four; and was one of the original poets to appear on the HBO original series Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry.
