H.G. Buzz Bissinger, III

Tickets will be required for faculty, staff, students and public

H.G. “Buzz” Bissinger III, best known for his non-fiction book Friday Night Lights, will examine the role of sports in our country, on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public, however, due to the overwhelming interest, this lecture will be a ticketed event. Tickets will be available to Penn State Berks students, faculty, and staff beginning on Nov. 4 in the Office of Campus Life, room 19 of the Perkins Student Center. Remaining tickets will be available to the public on Nov. 13. Tickets must be picked up in person with valid form of identification, and there is a limit of two tickets per person.

Considered by many to be the finest writer on sports of his generation, Bissinger details how athletics can influence everything from race to educational priorities to gender opportunities to self-identity. According to Bissinger, few aspects of our culture are more influential, and less candidly discussed, than sports in America. Bissinger plans to touch on how sports pervades everything—our educational system from junior high to college; the way parents relate to their sons and daughters; and the increasing moral dilemmas raised by the winning-at-all-costs attitude that is now almost tragically common.

This presentation is part of the Arts and Lecture series. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life at 610-396-6076.
