To Students, Faculty and Staff:

Since 1995, Penn State Berks students are assessed a Student Activity Fee (SAF) that generates over $400,000 annually to support campus programming. This fee is used to:

  1. Improve the co-curricular opportunities and activities for students
  2. Assist in providing specialized services and programs for diverse student populations on a student need basis.
  3. Enrich the campus environment and encourage the involvement of students.

This year’s SAF monies are used for many activities including Family Weekend, Student Government Association club funding, student and athletic clubs, extended hours of operation for the Beaver Community Center, social programming, diversity programs, the Lecture Series, tutors in the Learning Center, wellness programs, student tickets for campus theatre productions, Campus Activities Board initiatives and the list goes on!

Funds may not be used to support any academic classes or initiatives unless the proposed activity is open to all members of the student body.

The responsibility for determining how these funds are used rests with a ten person SAF committee, co-chaired by the S.G.A. President and the Senior Director of Student Affairs. Seven members are students in addition to one faculty and two staff members.

The Berks SAF Committee is ready to request proposals for activities, as well as for the 2011-2012 ACADEMIC YEAR. Anyone is eligible to request funding and you are asked to do so using the form at the right. Individuals may submit a request to the SAF Committee any time during the year; however this initial round of proposals will be used as the starting point for the 2011-2012 year. The Committee will begin to approve proposals this spring; however those that do not require an early decision may be deferred until the fall. Anyone submitting a proposal will be informed of the SAF Committee’s decision regardless of the outcome. Again, please use the “Student Activity Fee Request Form” for any proposal.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either of us.

Thanks!
