Eligibility & Retention
Berks Honors Program
First-year students who have a 3.5 high school or transfer GPA, a minimum combined SAT score of 1650, and/or AP scores of 3 and above in at least one subject may qualify for the program. Qualified transfer students, second-semester first-year students, and sophomores who have achieved a 3.5 GPA are also encouraged to apply to the program. First-semester sophomores with a 3.5 overall GPA also qualify for the Honors Program. An application essay may be substituted for one of the requirements above.
To be a student in good standing in the College Honors Program, students must complete an annual academic plan. This plan should demonstrate progress toward the intended major as well as enrollment in honors credits as follows: first-year and second-year students must complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of honors work each academic year; juniors and seniors must complete a minimum of 14 credits total, of which 6 may be thesis credits. All students must maintain a 3.3 overall GPA.
Schreyer Honors College

Admittance to the program is based on essays, teacher recommendations, class rank, g.p.a. and SAT scores for first-year students; for sophomores and juniors, admittance is based on essays, recommendations, and GPA. Schreyer Scholars typically represent the top 5% of the class at University Park.
To be a student in good standing in the Schreyer Honors College, students complete an online annual academic plan each year. During the first and second-year, students will complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of honors work, juniors and seniors will complete 14 hours of honors credits, of which 6 may be thesis credits. All students must maintain a 3.4 GPA each semester.
