Other: As a Berks alumni, I have a very strong connection to the campus and its community. I was very fortunate to help foster relationships between people in my capacity as a student leader, and I feel as though I wouldn't have been able to do so anywhere else. As I still consider myself active on the campus despite having graduated, I believe I would be able to help bridge the gap between the student body and the Alumni Society. I believe I would be able to bring information about Alumni activities to the student body, and in return I could provide student perspective to the Board on any issues that may arise.

Name: Kristen Hassler

Year Graduated Penn State: 2011
Major: Elementary Education
Degree: B.S.
BusinessProfession: Penn State Harrisburg Bookstore
Current Penn State Activities: Penn State Alumni Society member, Berks chapter volunteer
Penn State Activities as a Student: THON, Lion Ambassadors, Orientation Leaders Captain, Campus Activities Board, Senior Programs Committee
Honors/Awards: Campus Life Award 2011, Dean's List
Other: After learning more about the Berks Alumni Society, I felt that being a part of the board would give me the greatest opportunity to give back to the campus as it has given to me. Participating in several campus clubs and events while in school, and most recently in many alumni gatherings they've held, has given me ideas of how we could further improve the student/alumni relationship at Berks. I would love to take part in creating such events and keeping the connections strong between the students, faculty, and alumni members of Penn State Berks because, like many others, Berks is where my heart has lied for the past 5 years and will always be, and I'd like nothing more than to continue to see it grow.

Name: Tyler Washburn

Year Graduated Penn State: 2010
Major: Elementary Education
Degree: B.S.
Other Education: Pursuing M. Ed in Special Education, Lehigh University
Business/Profession: Instructor
Penn State Activities as a Student: SGA student representative (fall 2007-spring 2008), SGA Student Affairs Chair (fall 2008 - spring 2009), SGA Vice President (spring 2009-spring 2010), SGA Interim President spring (2009-fall 2009), peer mentor (fall 2007-end of fall 2009), Orientation Leader (fall 2007- fall 2009), Blue & White Society member
Alumni Association Membership: Annual Member
Other: I was very active at Penn State Berks and have worked hard to represent the student voice in my tenure as a student. When I graduated, I moved to Maryland to become a teacher. While in Maryland, I was a member of the Annapolis Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association. Currently, I am pursuing a Masters Degree in Special Education at Lehigh University, and am also employed at Lehigh University, working in the community with adults that have severe disabilities. The reason I feel I should be a board member is simply because I still enjoy being a part of Penn State Berks through visits to the campus, talking to current students, events, and supporting student-run events. I feel with still being new to the post undergrad world, I have a lot of insight to offer to not only current students who are wondering what's next after graduation, but also to students just entering life after graduation. Penn State Berks has helped me to grow as an adult, and I would like to return the favor and contribute back to Penn State Berks in any way possible.
