| | Title | Usability Engineering |
| | Credits | 3 |
| | Description | The modern system development process includes concurrent |
| | engineering of usability - features of a system that make it |
| | approachable, learnable, as well as easy and satisfying to |
| | use. Topics in the course include the emerging concept of |
| | usability, requirements gathering and analysis, the use of |
| | scenarios and claims to describe and analyze both current |
| | human practices and envisioned practices, activity design, |
| | information design, interaction design, documentation design, |
| | and user testing, including techniques for formative and |
| | summative usability evaluation. |
| | Prerequisite | IST331 |
| | Objectives | Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to build |
| | effective, flexible, and robust user interfaces. They will also |
| | develop paradigms of programming environments used to |
| | build user interfaces, translate system requirements into |
| | appropriate human/computer interaction sequences and |
| | model human/computer dialogues into transaction networks in |
| | order to capture and to respond to changes of state in the |
| | system. They will have the skills necessary to choose mode, |
| | media, and device for input/output instantiation appropriate for |
| | the user population, the application requirements, and the |
| | processing capabilities of the system. |
